Heritage Numbers

Heritage numbering is a method of chronologically listing players who have represented a sports club. The lists found below detail the debut of every player representing Oldham RLFC (1997) since its inaugural season in 1998.

The first official 1) game contested by the Oldham club was a Challenge Cup third-round preliminary tie played on January 18, 1998. The opposition was the amateur side Heworth. The player wearing shirt number one that day was Steve Wilde, who played full-back. He is therefore allocated heritage number 1.

The remainder of that Oldham team are allocated numbers 2-17 dependent on their playing position.

Subsequent numbers are allocated to every player on debut and follow the convention of traditional, not squad numbering, i.e. 1-17. If two or more players made their debuts in the same game, the lower team number is allocated a heritage number first.

Non-playing substitutes are not allocated a number until they go on to enter the field of play in a later game.

Friendly games were played prior to the cup-tie against Heworth, including a Law Cup encounter with Rochdale Hornets. This type of game is disregarded for the purpose of the heritage number project.
